Bio

I work as a printmaker and multimedia artist. My artwork is about energy, color, and  form with an emphasis on interpretive landscapes and free form. I use composition, texture, color and visual movement often with multi media in my work to convey emotions and a sense of time or place. There is an interconnection of style and art quality between the monotypes, stoneware vessels and paintings.  I often show them together.

I keep an active exhibiting schedule in regional shows and local, juried competitions and commercial galleries in both solo and group exhibits. My work is juror selected and frequently invited to show with the members of the New Britain Museum of American Art, The Annual CT Artists Show, The CT +6 Elected Group, the Stonington Printmakers Society, and the Connecticut Women Artists Members and  National Open Juried Shows.

I have received numerous awards for monotypes, stoneware vessels, and oil and acrylic paintings. I received the Best Print in Show award for my monotype at the Member’s Juried Show of the New Britain Museum of American Art, Best in Show awards for monotype and painting, and two Louise Forest Gibson Foundation awards for my stoneware vessels. Grants, honors, and awards include art residences at the Vermont Studio Center and Zea May Printmaking . I received two National Endowment For the Arts participant grants for drawing and painting at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I have been a visiting artist and mentor in painting and drawing at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the TICA program.

My most recent studio work with the artists include: A monotype two week art residency at Zea May Printmaking: Northhampton, MA, monotype with Catherine Kernan in Mixit Studio: Boston, monotype with printmaker, Susan Rostow at Art New England, MA College of Art at Bennington College and the Manhattan Graphics Center and an Invitational Studio Session with Ms Rostow. I have worked in monotype with master printmaker, Lisa Mackie at The Center for Contemporary Printmaking and monotype with master printmaker, Ron Pokrasso at the Make Art Safely: Santa Fe Printmaking Center. I have painted with Jessie Fisher at the The Kansas City Art Institute College of Art and Design, and The Art Institute of New Hampshire plein-aire painting with painter, Stanley Moeller. I have worked with Jenny Mendes, clay sculptor/Santa Fe and in the studio of Wesleyan Potters in Middletown, CT.

I am frequently invited to serve as an art juror for regional and local exhibits and to serve as a guest speaker for art organizations, including the spring speaker for the New Hampshire Women’s Art Caucus.

I work as an art award educator/consultant with children’s book illustrator and author, Tomie DePaola for his high school art award for two high schools of Meriden, CT.

Serving as President from 2011-2017, I currently serve  on the Council of the Connecticut Women Artists, an art organization since 1929 of elected members of now over 200 Connecticut women artists. This group exhibits juried work at least twice a year in named galleries and museums throughout the state.
